Introduction

I have a healthcare management degree and am currently enrolled in a health and medical humanities doctoral program. There are distinct but complementary fields of study within the health humanities and healthcare management that can be studied in conjunction to gain a deeper understanding of healthcare. Moreover, healthcare management addresses healthcare’s business and organizational aspects, whereas health humanities concentrate on the intersection between the arts, ethics, humanities, and social sciences.
How Can Health Humanities and Health Care Management be Integrated?
Based on my understanding of learning both healthcare management and health humanities. With this knowledge, I am better able to understand how to improve patient-centered care by understanding and responding to their needs and preferences. Moreover, learning health humanities has given me insights into the human experience of illness and healthcare, which can help healthcare managers develop more compassionate and patient-centered policies and procedures.
1. Listen to patient feedback

My health humanities background has helped me better understand and prioritize patients’ needs and preferences, enabling me to listen to patient feedback. Additionally, as a healthcare manager, I can collect feedback from patients about their experiences with the healthcare system, including their interactions with healthcare providers, the quality of care they received, and any issues encountered. This feedback can help identify areas where policies and procedures need improvement to serve patients’ needs better.
2. Involve patients in policy development

My background in health humanities and healthcare management has helped me provide valuable input when developing policies and procedures that directly affect patients care. As a healthcare manager, I can engage patients in the policy development process by creating patient advisory committees or soliciting feedback through surveys or focus groups.
3. Ethical decision-making

As someone with a background in both health humanities and healthcare management, I understand that they involve ethical decision-making from different angles. Health humanities explore the ethical dimensions of healthcare from a patient-centered perspective, while healthcare management focuses on organizational ethics and decision-making. Furthermore, integrating these two fields can help healthcare managers make more ethical and patient-centered decisions.
Conclusion
Integrating health humanities and healthcare management has provided me with a more comprehensive and holistic understanding of patient-centered and effective healthcare in the organizational context.
